The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel located on a rocky outcrop above the city of Athens and contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historic significance, the most famous being the Parthenon. FILOPAPPOU HILL

Also called the Hill of the Muses, Filopappou Hill - along with the Hills of the Pnyx and the Nymphs - was, according to Plutarch, where Theseus and the Amazons did battle. Inhabited from prehistoric times to the post-Byzantine era, today the pine-clad slopes are a relaxing place for a stroll. They offer excellent views of Attica and the Saronic Gulf, well-signed ruins and some of the very best vantage points for photographing the Acropolis.

THISEIO - Location

Thiseio is popular for early afternoon or evening strolls with views of the illuminated Acropolis. It includes the pedestrianized Apostolou Pavlou street that rings the Acropolis. The National Observatory, a scientific institute for the study of astronomy and seismology has vintage telescopes on display and offers tours, while the Herakleidon museum hosts art and science exhibitions.

PLAKA - Location

In the shadow of the Acropolis and its ancient temples, hillside Plaka has a village feel, with narrow cobblestone streets lined with tiny shops selling jewelry, clothes and local ceramics. Sidewalk cafes and family-run tavernas stay open until late, and Cine Paris shows classic movies al fresco. Do not miss, one of the most idyllic neighborhoods in Plaka, Anafiotika. The picturesque whitewashed houses and narrow alleys are reminiscent of a Cyclade island village, called Anafi.

*Sub par experience .. not worth the price

For approx €300 per night in May this hotel was definitely not worth it. I’m surprised at some of the positive reviews and wondering if we even stayed in the same place. Rooms were small, bathrooms even smaller (almost no space to put your things so you have to put them on the toilet lid.. a woman did not design those bathrooms!). No socket to charge your phone beside the bed so you either have the beside lamp or the phone. Really noisy in the morning with tiled corridors and open staircase echoing everything from 7.30am. The worst hotel breakfast I’ve ever had .. a choice between unpeeled hard kiwi and orange segments or congealed fried eggs. Staff quite brusque and unfriendly, I didn’t even get asked at checkout if I’d had a nice stay .. so I’m giving my opinions here instead. Save your money and stay elsewhere or in an apartment closer to downtown.... ++

*Beautiful hotel with great service

We recently stayed at the Stanley. Rooms are nice, clean with walk-in showers. Just like most Europe hotels the rooms are smaller but not too bad. All rooms have fridge, hairdryer and lots of plugs. The breakfast has a large selection. The rooftop area is wonderful with great views. Drinks are good and the food is also. The staff was great, very helpful.... ++

The hotel is close to metro and easy access to all the main attractions. The rooms were very comfortable, great staff and excellent breakfast with so much choice and we loved the rooftop pool, bar and restaurant area which had a great view of the Acropolis. We would stay again if we ever return to Athens.... ++

*A short spring vacation in Athens

The views of the city and the Parthenon from the rooftop restaurant and pool area are great. You can relax on the rooftop by the pool and order drinks or food. The a la carte food, sushi and cocktails in the rooftop restaurant were amazing. Rooms are spacious and clean with comfortable beds and all the necessary amenities. Breakfast was good, although there could be a bit more variety. All the staff were very pleasant and professional. There is a metro station right around the corner, but it's also 20-30 min walk from all the sites.... ++

My husband and I stayed at The Stanley and were glad we chose to eat at their rooftop restaurant, The Sweet Basil. The dishes were well-prepared with unique touches, the drinks were spectacular, and this rooftop restaurant provided stunning views of the lit up Parthenon and the mountainous and beautiful city of Athens. The expert staff were not only efficient, but friendly and knowledgeable as well. Katerina, the staff manager, was very personable and professional.
